I was inspired last week by anthropologie when I found a recipe book there that was precious. First- here is mine:
And here is Anthropologie's. Yes, very different. But I really just thought the idea of the spoon on the front was so fun!
There are 3 basic parts to mine:
1. The Spoon
2. The Burlap Cover (or just plain fabric)
3. The Section dividers.
First- the spoon. Its your basic flattened spoon. This one said "coin silver" on it. So its some sort of sliver blend? Much easier to hammer down flat. I decided to stamp "Recipes" in my spoon as well. But no need if you dont have a stamping kit! (if you want one- I have one for sale here)
Next the Burlap. Grab an old book, or a blank book- or something "book like". Basically cut the burlap longer and wider than your book. You're going to cover it like you covered your elementry school texbooks with paper sacks. Iron the burlap to help with your creases!
For attaching the spoon on the burlap- I made up a little trick! First I hot glued it on, but wanted to make sure it would stay. I decided to tie it with strings of burlap. I took one end of a burlap string, put on glue on the end, licked my fingers so it wouldn't burn me and made the hot glue into a point at the end. A perfect way to make a needle to weave it through your burlap.
Finally the cute little section dividers. The anthropologie one had different colored paper, but since we are using an old book- I wanted a way to have sections. I saw these monster bookmarks here- and just went with the general idea of having a colored corner
Cut out a little square about an inch long- and then do the following!
Make a few in different colors to mark sections or your favorites recipes!
Finally- add your recipes! You can do slits with notecards like anthropologie (I didn't have notecards) or simply glue your recipe cards in. I just wrote one in for the example, but I plan on printing them from the computer and pasting them all inside.
And you're all done!

Wonderful book cover! I love everything about it and the way you made it. (Dare I say it, I like yours better than anthro version.) For corner bookmarks I cut the corners off pretty and/or colored envelopes from birthday cards and such, no folding required.
Oh my gosh, I love this so much I think I might have to order a spoon from you so I can do this. If you haven't sent out the headbands I bought the other day yet I would love for you to include it! You can send me an invoice for the spoon.
I actually found your version nicer! Looks way more authentic!
