A Wiser Me

I am well into my 2nd year in law school. This year I've moved back to Nebraska, am living in a new city, and graduated with my first degree and have begun my next. Just a few things I've learned this year. Dare I say... a few things that have made me wiser.

You can't re-prioritize the past, but prioritize correctly in the future
Eating while studying makes you gain weight
To acquire knowledge, it requires motivation
Blogging is fun (and addicting)
Osmosis fails every time.
It doesn't hurt to try etsy- it could be a huge success
Finals come more quickly each semester
Sometimes nerdy is cool
Growing up is hard
At 24, you can no longer use the excuse "I'm too young to think of marriage"
Netflix is a time suck
Its never too early to study
Being in the working world doesn't seem so glamorous...
But not having a job when you graduate looks worse
When your friends live in different states, its just an excuse for a vacation
Only law students get excited to learn to draft a prenup
Everyone thinks studying is a lame excuse, even when its true
Nebraska really is obsessed with college football
Piercings may not be a make or break issue with some employers, but why chance it?
Even though law school is beats ethics into you, everyone still thinks lawyers are cheats
Never ask a law student for legal advice

On another note- I was informed of this skymall game called Passing The Bar.

There is no possible way this would replace the thousands of dollars one spends on bar exam prep courses...but I thought it extremely humorous.

These are a lot of really good observations, Kitty. Also, being 24 doesn't mean you're past being young enough to get married! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Also, that game is hilarious.

@ Bailey, I'm a little confused which way your comment was supposed to go???

For me:

'At 24, you can no longer use the excuse "I'm too young to think of marriage"'

This is a total and complete lie. Statistically, those who wait a little longer and are a little older when they give it at go for their first marriages are more likely to only have first marriages. NEXT, women with advanced degrees, on average don't marry until they are over 30. A woman with a bachelor's degree, on average, marries in her late twenties. You're waaaaay ahead of the curve.

But I suspect, you mention this moreso because of your own desires, rather than because of other people's perceptions or needs or pressure. ;)

Kitty

I suppose I should explain the marriage comment! Its not that I'm worried about not being married yet. its that people look at you funny when you say "I'm to young to even think of marraige" because society assumes that at 24, you're completely capable of being married. Last years stats showed that the average age for a women to have a first marraige is 26. So I'm not worried...I've got plenty of time!

Emily

You need to move to NYC, because at 30 most people around here are still saying "I'm way to young to think of marriage." When I told them I had friends that got married at 23, they acted like Oklahoma sells child brides.

Emily

and sorry to correct my grammar, but I mean too, not to.:)

As the wife of a law student I totally smiled while reading these because they are so true!

During the last 2.25 years of law school I have learned that being married to a law student temporarily makes you a widow...among other things :).

I just wanted to say kudos to you. After watching my husband go through law school thus far, I have no desire to do the same and I admire anyone who does. Good luck on the rest of your law school journey!

Kelsey

The one about saying you're too young to get married...I totally understand. :/
