Andrew the Postal Worker

This semester I've learned, everyone should get to know their local postal worker. Since I'm in the post office on a daily basis, I've become well known for my unique packages (I often pack in coke boxes, vinyl album covers, and random boxes)

Andrew is the postal worker I see the most often. In a non-creepy way, we've learned each other's names without actually introducing ourselves. Andrew wears a name tag, and of course my return address labels say Kitty, so that solves that mystery. Within the last couple of weeks we've started calling each other by name. A couple months ago he talked to me about possible gifts for his girl friend's birthday, and I found out later she returned the gift (how sad!) What I'm getting at, is we have the beginning of a friendship. Now whenever I walk in to the post office, they all chime in "hey kitty" and I'm certain the people that are waiting in line are thinking- "what is wrong with this girl?"

Well earlier this month I was in a rush, and managed to put a package into the package drop before putting the stamp on it. When I went up to Andrew to tell him about my mistake, he laughed, took the stamp from me, and said he would take care of it for me on his break. How nice right?! He said he knows what my packages look like, so he will be able to dig through it and find the one. The day after I told him thanks again, while he was telling a customer about me and how I was a cardboard connoisseur since I've managed to figure out how light the cardboard must be for my hangers, to make them light enough for first class.

I've brought them cookies, and enjoyed numerous conversations with them on how their lives are going. What can I say, the post office isn't so bad (when it isn't around the holidays...right now I avoid it at ALL cost)

This week was just a friendly reminder about how being nice to everyone can some days come back to work in your favor!

Amen to this - before I moved, I had built up a pretty good rapport with my local post office. They're so nice, and going there so often made me realize how much ridiculous stuff they have to put up with every day.
