Couch Surfing

I'm posing this question out here in the blogosphere: Has anyone tried Couch Surfing??

I'm dying to give it a try, but I would at least like to hear about others personal experiences with it first! If you haven't tried it, and have no idea what I am talking about....this is basically what I understand it is.

There is a website for Couch Surfing here. And you can post your "couch" (or futon or spare bed) on the website, saying you are willing to have visitors to the area, and be their host for free! Its one of those things for people persons. Anyway, you can put specifications, and then people can contact you and you can get to know people first before telling them you will host them. It can be one or multiple people, but you as a host get the final say.

With that, I'm not looking to host (even though Lincoln is a "hoppin" place, however, I'll probably wait to be a host until I have my own place ready for visitors) but to visit New York City. Since hotels and hostels can be quite steep, and I plan on going with another person...I figured it would be a great opportunity to try it! You can also rate your hosts, so it makes it a little more legit!

So with that...has anyone actually tried it before?!

*Please all of you mothers out there, including mine, don't give me the whole "stranger danger" speech. I'm not actually doing it yet, but getting a general feel for the idea*

{Guest Blogger} Men's Necktie Eyeglass Case

Hi! My name is Laura and I'm excited to be guest posting today from Olive and Love! I love diy projects, thrifting, upcycling and being creative while running a busy household of three kids. Today I'd like to share with you an upcycling project that turns a men's necktie into an eyeglass case! Thanks for this opportunity Kitty!

neck tie eyeglass case

While reading my magazines in the bath the other day (yes, ahhh...it was wonderful, a rare occasion), I came across a cute Father's Day gift idea in the June Country Living (page 48). It read, "Transform a traditional necktie into nifty eyeglass case for dear old Dad. So off to the thrift store I went....
I think I over paid for my ties, but they were there and I was there and well, frankly, with three kids, sometimes that's as good as it's gonna get.
First step is to cut the tie 17 inches from the point.
The inside of the tie is where the glasses will be held. Only one of my ties needed a quick seem ripper action down the middle.
Of course this ended up opening up the entire thing so I needed to glue it back together.
"Sewing with a tube"...how much better can it get?
I used glue on another tie that had a flap where eyeglass frames would probably get caught.
My third tie had a cushiony filler that also needed a little glue.
After patching up the loose areas, fold the length of the tie over the back, tucking in the very end about an inch for a finished look. One of my ties that had the cushiony filler needed the inside cut out about one inch from the end to keep it from getting too thick when folded.
Whip stitch along the top and sides, being careful not to sew the pouch closed.
Attach velcro to the tips and coordinating area when closed. I used the softer side of the velcro where the eyeglasses would slide in to avoid scratches.
Cute huh?
Unfortunately when gluing one of the ties, some of the glue bled through the fabric resulting in a couple small stains on the front. Soooo......

Solar Mason Jar Light

I saw the coolest thing this week, it was a trick to making solar mason jar lights!

All you do is pick up a cheapy solar light for outdoors- I got mine at walmart for under $3. And grab a mason jar

Now pull off the bottom stick portion, and place the top in the mason jar!

It's that easy! If you want it more permanent, hot glue or super glue it inside!

I've never used these before, so I was surprised how long they lasted! I actually kept mine in my room (great for a kid's night light!) I had it in the window a couple of hours, and it lasted through the morning!

Frozen Yogurt Drops

I've been seeing these frozen yogurt drops on pinterest- and what a great treat!
I would probably say that I eat yogurt more than ANY other food. I eat a couple yogurts a day, and a few extra on other days (especially when I consider how much I put into my smoothies). I'm a hardcore snacker, and rarely sit down for a meal...yogurt is my go-to item!

Another interesting fact about me...I'm lactose intolerant! Like many of us "lac-ies" (just go with it) yogurt doesn't bother me like other milk products. I'm not into the whole science of it....but it seems like a pretty normal thing. Yogurt is a great solution for me!

I loved "go-gurts" as a kid, and its basically the adult version :)

Put yogurt into a bag, and squeeze them out into little dollops. I put them on a wrapped plate!

Freeze for a few hours, pull them out and eat them!

I also love to eat frozen grapes, especially when they start to get a little too squishy. When I freeze them, I don't realize they've started to get a bit past their prime! Much like my picky-ness on bananas.  I like half green bananas....which mean there is only about 1-2 days where I will actually eat a banana outright.  However, I will eat almost any fruit, no matter how squishy, if it is thrown in a smoothie!

Now that I've outline my fruit and yogurt obsessions... I'll call it an evening

Life Update

Honestly, I cannot believe how quickly this semester has gone by. For those of you who are keeping up with things other than my crafts and tutorials (I'm not offended if that is the only thing you keep up with! Its my favorite thing to blog about!) I wanted to give a little update on what is going on, and what will be going on.

I had taken a week off last week for spring break. Although it was fabulous, I have alot ahead of me that I need to get going on.

First, I'm still in that awkward position of figuring out summer plans. Will I take classes, work at law firm, work a normal job, do a clinic at school? I'm still contacting firms, and applying for jobs. But quite frankly, I've never had such hard time trying to balance the "law job" and the "kid job". Its hard to have a kid job backup, when they already don't want to hire you because you are "over qualified" and they know you want stick around after you graduate. Not to mention I've had an offer for a manager of a photography studio, but had to turn them down since I'm only looking for something that I could work under 20 hours in the fall. Its just all around a tough place to be.

Next, its 4 weeks til finals. *gulp* Every semester I get to complain about finals...and how every semester they make me want to quit. They are absolutely awful in law school. Its a 4+ hour essay final....that is your entire grade. I mean, you can't get much worse than that.

This week, however, there is something to celebrate! Kevin and I will have been dating 4 years on Wednesday! Although we won't be together (he has a wedding to go to in Oklahoma) its an exciting event for us!
Happy Early 4 years Kevin :)

And finally...there is this "event" I've signed up for in Oklahoma City (where I went to undergrad). It is SMACK in the middle of my 2 weeks of finals (probably not the BEST idea I've had) ButI've always thought it would be neat to participate in this event! I've signed up for the Oklahoma City Memorial Half Marathon!
Trust me, I've never thought I'd ever say that. I'm not a runner. Well, I wasn't a runner? I don't know what I am. But a few months ago I decided to try running. If I keep it up, I feel pretty confident I'll be ready! Lets hope I can make it!

If I do...then it will only be two more finals....and I'm officially considered a 3L and in my last year of law school!

New Orleans- Spring Break Day #1

All I can really say, is so far, its been a wonderful trip! We woke up early, to take the plane down to New Orleans!

I got alot of studying done, enjoyed the scenery, and took a short nap....when I woke up with slobber all over my book. Whoops!

We got here mid afternoon, walked around, enjoyed the scenery, and of course got to experience St. Patrick's Day here in the city!

We ate at Cafe du Monde- and got Beignets and cafe au lait

I really love how old and colorful everything is!! Even though you can still see so much damage to the buildings, everything that is still in one piece, looks great!

And finished the night with a festive parade!
Hope everyone had a wonder St. Patty's day!
